WOW what a start to the 2018 year with our 1st meeting being held under lights for the 1st time at the Bendigo Track. Thank you to the committee members who worked throughout the week and last night to make the day/night a success. The reports feeding back have been overwhelming. Ironing out a few gremlins will only see the night racing get better.
All race times and lap times are currently track records due to the layout (SS1) ran for the 1st time.
VTA – Theo the Greek God, took the honours with a fastest lap of 22.84 and overall race fastest race time of 15 laps in 6.05.
21.5 – Saw almost a full field with Ian Miller fresh off his 3rd Place in last weekend’s Metro Masters and Dale Aitken visit us from Templestowe. Both are very fast quality drivers which put the locals to the test. Dale TQ’d from Theo with Ian qualifying 3 for the finals. Dale took the 1st Final just from Ian and Willy. 2nd final was closer again with Ian pressuring Dale until the 5 minute mark when a slight mishap allowed Dale to pull away and take the Win from Ian and Theo. The last final was a “dead rubber” where Ian was able to take the win from Dale whom tried everything to get back past Ian. A mistake from Dale late in the race saw Ian take the win, Dale finishing in second place and Theo taking third after a Wade mishap with 2 laps to go. Well done to Graeme from Wangaratta jumping into the competitive 21.5 class in his 1st outing at Bendigo, who held his own and drove well.
13.5 – Gus took the win from Toby and Tim in 3rd Place. Gus set the lap and race record with an 18.122 and a 20 lap in 6.1506
Spec Class – Powered by HobbyWing – Massive Thank you to HobbyWing and Hearn’s Hobbies for helping the club make this a reality with an awesome turnout of 10 drivers to contest Round 1 of the season. With random grid draws it was sure to be fair and close racing and it certainly was. The majority of the 6 rounds saw the 1st 5 & 6 Racers all finishing on the same lap. Our newest member Paul Edwards from Wangaratta certainly showing us he has not lost any of his previous form in his absence from racing taking out Round 1 68 points followed by Skip on 58 Points and Tim on 55 points. With a long season ahead of us and a DNF proving very costly it is wide open. Well done to Willy for setting the lap record with a 21.085 and race record also of 17 laps in 6.13. Unfortunately for Willy, a DNF in Round 5 cost him being at the pointy end of the results after he had earlier won 2 rounds! Special mention to Janine (making a comeback to racing) and Dean having his 1st ever race meeting. Although the racing gods weren’t on your sides last night, I am sure its only a matter of time before you guys are pushing everyone else.
I trust that everyone whom raced last night had a good night and enjoyed some awesome racing.
See you all next race night on Saturday the 17th with racing to commence at 5pm SHARP (to avoid a late finish)
