Skip’s Round 2 Race Report

posted in: Announcements, Race Results | 0

Round 2 of the summer series was ran yesterday evening, with track records falling, some new “ old” racers back on the track and a photo shoot in the afternoon for an upcoming article in the Bendigo Magazine to run in conjunction with the 2017 Classic.  Again the highlight of the night was the Spec Class – powered by Hobbywing with a capacity field of 11 competing.

21.5 – Saw the return of Cooper and Matt;  great to see both guys back on the track enjoying their racing.   Both soon got their rhythm back and times kept falling each run.  Cooper came close to breaking both Lap and Track records under lights when the track was not at it’s quickest, a great effort ! Matt was also getting quicker as the night went on. Final results were Cooper 1st, Matt 2nd and Theo 3rd.

13.5 – Again light on with numbers however some close racing throughout the night between Jon and Tim.  I ran 13.5 with a 21.5 doing some testing.

Spec Class – Powered by HobbyWing – Massive Thank you to HobbyWing and Hearn’s Hobbies for helping the club make this a reality was an capacity turnout of 11 drivers to contest Round 2 of the season.  Random grid draws again resulted in fair and close racing with our newest member Paul Edwards from Wangaratta certainly showing us again, Round 1 was no fluke.  Paul set the pace in the 1st 2 rounds, with myself winning round 3 and setting a new hot lap record of 20.851.  Paul took the overall win from Tim with Wade in 3rd place, after 2 rounds Paul is leading with Tim 2nd, Wade 3rd and myself 4th.   Four rounds of the Summer series remain and the competition is still very open.  The highlight for many of the night apart from Janine and Dean showing marked improvements, which is great to see, was the couple of races where all 11 cars completed a couple of laps with side by side pack racing overcoming the usual  crash and bash grid starts … well done to all drivers.  This class is creating a great deal of interest with the format and closeness of the racing.  At this stage the field may even double next series with a new points score needing to be developed (Reedy Race points score looking likely).  With a couple of ex racers looking at making comebacks to compete in this class, it is sure to keep getting stronger.

I trust that everyone whom raced last night had a good night and enjoyed some awesome racing.

See you all next race night on Saturday the 17th of March

In the meantime Geelong recommence racing this weekend, Tim, Myself and Willy are heading down, please feel free to tag along.
